Permits and Tackle

Fly Fishing: A nine foot six weight rod will suffice for our fishery for both dry and wet fly fishing. See our section on entomology for advice on flies and tying patterns by David Touhy an all Ireland medal winner for fly tying.

Bait fishing and spinning: An eight or nine foot light action rod will be adequate for most situations. A landing net would also be useful as some of our banks are steep it is also less stressful on the fish.

Please note no chandlers (white maggots) are allowed on the fishery by state and association laws/rules. In conclusion: You are most welcome to come Mountmellick to enjoy our fishery. If you have any comments or suggestions they would be most welcome. Wishing you tight lines.
